Inspiration is the intuition, something that comes from the subconscious mind. Structure is the conscious part, the part that is of this world. Both are necessary, in equal measure.

Thought individuals would like to see how I am filling my time. Yes, colored pencils, but I found the wax build-up was a problem. I found my way around that, but I feel the line and textures underpin all that I do.
My students often heard me speak about how vital thumbnails are in creating and planning. Well, I do take my advice.
I still like the idea of working small. Most of everything I am doing are no bigger than 5″x 5”

I’m a Minneapolis-based artist working in watercolor, gouache, oil, drawing, and mixed media.
After teaching art and design for many years, I returned to making art fully. These days, I spend my time drawing, painting, experimenting, and paying attention to what shows up.
I often work small. My work moves between observation, memory, and imagination. Some pieces lean surreal. Some stay close to what is seen. What interests me is what begins to emerge when I stay with the work long enough.

In that way, art has become more than making objects — it has become a way of understanding and being in the world.
