A year of drawings, watercolors, sketchbook studies, and experiments — 2025–2026.

Some pieces are finished works. Some are questions. Some are simply part of learning.

“I am trying to be unfamiliar with what I’m doing.”
— John Cage

After retiring from teaching, I returned to the studio and slowly built a life around making things again and my art re-education. Part of that re-education has included revisiting experimental art spaces like Rhizome. The studio has become part of the rhythm of my days.

Over this last year, I’ve begun to notice patterns forming across the work — in symbols, structure, color, and process. I am seeing connections between them, and that excites me. Watercolor still feels mysterious to me. Gouache too. Oil painting even more so. The play is serious, and just what play should be: fun.

Mostly, this page is simply a record of the work continuing.

“Indeed, the Artist is no other than he who unlearns what he has learned, in order to know himself; and the agony of the Artist, far from being the result of the world’s failure to discover and appreciate him, arises from his own personal struggle to discover, to appreciate and finally to express himself.”
~E.E. Cummings | Under The Blue Door.
