Moving Forward

“The Shadow as a Metaphor for Power” is in and I am officially done with my degree. You can get a copy of the thesis on my Portfolio page and follow the links.

I am not going to complain about how busy I’ve been but I have. I’ve accomplished a lot. The studio is in good shape too. I’ve applied for a grant to study the post modern critique. In short, it will be looking at overcoming built-in prejudges between the generations. I will post more about the topic soon. Frenchy Lunning was a big help as I worked to narrow focus.

The ♥ and Mind of Milton Glaser

‘Among designers, he’s a legend. For the rest of the roughly 300 million people in the U.S. (and millions more around the globe), Milton Glaser is probably the most famous designer you’ve never heard of.

Sitting here… this morning planning my day with my lovey-dovey cat–Greta. She is laying her head on my left hand so typing is a challenge. You may see this truly wonderful beast on flickr.

I am posting a couple of shots that Steven took yesterday. One of my drawings from the series Tracing my Existence and a detail as well. The title of the drawing is December 14-15, 2005–MCAD.

Going to focus on three things today… my courses, “Intro to Graphic Software, Graphic Design for the Non-Designer” and getting the internet in the studio connected so I can start billing. Ouch… need to do the thank you cards too.

Later.

Flock–

First things first: in its present incarnation Flock is nowhere near stable enough to use as an everyday browser – and to be fair it isn’t supposed to be. Flock 0.5 is not even a beta, it’s a developer preview … Despite the bugs, though, Flock contains enough bright ideas to make it an interesting addition to the burgeoning browser scene.

Great review and it explains how these developers bring a fresh tool that intergrates a number of web services into a browser. Take a few minutes to read this article about how Flock brings innovation to the web.

As for me, the last few days have been very productive. Drawings are finally documented. Now I only need to gather up some of the other documentation of the work I’ve done. Working hard on my classes… syllabi due next week.

Clouds & Churches

Yesterday wasn’t a wash-out. Got a few things done. Checked on the dsl service in my studio. Scratch. The wires weren’t ran yet. Keeping things in perspective… I am not dying, poor, or fighting a war made by people that never served or worse yet got deferments or used daddy’s connections to get them out of serving.

The Republican’s and the war mongers seem to have found an answer to ensure they have lots of troops to fight their battles and keep the rich kids out of the fray. This current budget… the current budget decreases financial aid to poorer and middle class students. The end result for those folk is if they want to go to college they have to join up and fight wars that others chose– usually over oil. it is very sad. So my little dsl problems are nothing. Hope you’re staying warm… snow in Minnesota today.
