I’m a Minneapolis-based artist working in watercolor, gouache, oil, drawing, and mixed media. After teaching art and design for many years, I returned to making art fully. These days, I spend my time drawing, painting, experimenting, and paying attention to what shows up. I often work small. My work moves between observation, memory, and imagination. Some pieces lean surreal. Some stay close to what is seen. What interests me is what begins to emerge when I stay with the work long enough. On my blog, you’ll find both my artwork and my reflections. I’ve come to see they are connected. What I learn in the studio often changes how I see my life, my relationships, and my community. In that way, art has become more than making objects — it has become a way of understanding and being in the world.

One Step Closer

The projects are going along well. Having fun with Director. Have tried the Director animation a couple different ways which ever way I have done it, it is a real drag on the processor.

I can’t believe… I can’t remember how to do repeating loops or set up functions. Some other things I remember so well.

The sun is out — would have been a great day for drawing but it is so blasted windy. I am hoping Friday will be better. I have to figure out how I am going to hang the camera for my installation. Seems I’ll be doing a performance piece with the camera mounted above me while I am tracing my shadow on the floor below. The image caught by the projector of me tracing my shadow will be projected on the wall.

Next couple days I will post the floor plan for my thesis show.

Oak’s Shadow @ MCAD—Oct 20, 2005

Waiting for sun… having a good time today. Working on the animation for my final project–”the Grinder.” It is going well but needed a bit of a break. So here I am.

I certainly don’t get tired of taking photos. This image was taken the morning of Oct 20th. Before I started my drawing that day. I did draw yesterday but it got very cloudy so I had to quit at noon. I am hoping to be able to resume it again on the Tuesday or Wednesday. The weather doesn’t look like it will cooperate until then. Bummer. 

Do hope to get my animation done today.

OMG—I am going to graduate.

Check in– Yesterday was a good day. The software for the “Grinder” is working. Will be drawing Friday and producing the last drawing piece for my Thesis Show.

Still got to get to IKEA to find the enclosure. The enclosure I really want to have finished by 11•22.\r\n\r\nHanded off my thesis to Piotr so now all three of my committee members have it. The Learning Center is doing a final read. My committee will meet on December 12th at 12:30p.m. I will graduate on the 16th. Whoa!

I chose to put Michael’s and my photo up because I need to acknowledge how important this man is to me. I’m the blonde and Mike is the handsome man in from of me.

NIGHT GRID

Busy next couple of days… I got the software running for the Grinder piece. I will need two computers but I think it will work out just fine. Today I need to finish my citations and get the furniture for the installation. Perhaps I will be able to work on it later today and tomorrow. I think I will be able to do some drawing outside Friday–looks like it will be a nice day.

Graphic Design for the Non Designer’

I began working on a course to follow-up the postcard course, which I taught online for Minneapolis College of Art and Design. This course will be five weeks. I will be teaching design principles and elements. I will be looking for course material in the next fews weeks.
