We are at the mid-point of the semester. Hard to believe. On April 2nd, we will get the news from the president of MCTC how we will balance a shrinking budget due to the economic downturn. I’ve said to my dean and some of the other administers of the college that I would never want to trade jobs with them. Minneapolis Community Technical College is a wonderful place. In the last ten years, the reputation and the academic standing of our college has increased substantially. The facilities are excellent primarily because of the team work of the staff, faculty and the leadership of Phil Davis. We all do their best to provide our students and community a positive and progressive learning environment. Tonight, I can’t sleep because I know we will lose some talented people due to layoffs. Perhaps even my job will have to go but whatever happens I know the process has been fair. As fair as it can be.

I am upset by the path that the Republican Party took us down. To think that President Clinton left office there was actually a budget surplus, then President Bush squandered that… plus the future of this country for some years to come. My heart aches for the people who have lost their jobs, their homes, and their lifes.
