Obstacle, Opportunity, or Both

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity and are able to turn both to their advantage.”

The fun and excitement with teaching is that you never stop learning. What’s even more exciting, I get to learn from my students.

Why Art Changes Lives…

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

Why art changes lives? Because we can express our laughter, we can express our tears, we can express our madness, we can express our fears, we can express our hopes, we can express our screams, we are the artists and art gives us the strength to grow into our dreams.”

Art Can Change Lives... 'Cause...

As a teacher, I see art changing lives daily. Some found new careers but most found happiness and direction. Lucky me.

Art—A Selective Re-Creation of Reality

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Art is a selective re-creation of reality according to an artist’s metaphysical value-judgments. An artist recreates those aspects of reality which represent his fundamental view of man’s nature.”

A Selective Re-Creation of Reality

A great quote for these images that I place here—tied to reality, then built with an algorithm that places each in time divided by space. A photograph at its essence is a vehicle to catch a memory, a mood, or moment. These images found in my blog use the photograph as the under-painting and then I apply technique that searches for the essence of feeling and mood that speaks through a visual vocabulary that is held there. It pushes the image to move beyond the seen to the unseen.

Today is a birthday of sorts for me and my blog. My one year birthday of capturing images and developing a process that ties place, heart, and soul together. A prayer of sorts, moments of solace, and reflection focused by Lake Harriet and her shores with images taken on my travels… As shadows passing over the landscape… These images attest to my finite existence.

Thank you to those that following Art Changes Lives (Dot) Com and check infrom time to time.

Design in a Nutshell

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Good design is a great combination of common sense, unusual imagination, clarity of purpose-with a prerequisite knowledge of structure, values, color, aesthetic insight and a deep reverence for the love of life.”

Along the shores of Superior

An Upward Gaze, Along the shores of Superior, Tofte, Minnesota

I read once that our sight evolved to look down at path we follow and level with the horizon to search for prey but I found looking up yields the most spectacular designs. Even if you stumble over a few stones now and again it is worth the look-see.

What You See Is Not What You See

Monday, February 27th, 2012

All perceiving is also thinking, all reasoning is also intuition, all observation is also invention.

Perception is not Reality

Found a few minutes to look through my photographs and post this photo and quote. The quote came from Brainy Quotes. and I search out a quote specifically to do with Gestalt Theory since we are talking about it in my courses this week.

I am looking forward to being back and working more on my sites.
